About Me

• Dr. Deepa Kizhakke Veetil, a Gastroenterologist in Delhi has trained in General Surgery from one of the premier institutes in India, Christian Medical College Vellore and has 12 years of clinical and research experience following post-graduation, in the field of General and Trauma Surgery. Having worked in the public and private sectors across various states in South, West and North India, she has dealt with a wide variety of surgical workloads and the diverse manifestations of surgical cases. • She then went on to complete her FRCS Edinburgh and Masters in Trauma Sciences from QMUL(UK). She is also a member of the Faculty of Remote, Rural and Humanitarian Healthcare division of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. This broadened her perspectives and enabled her to collaborate and network with professionals across the globe. As a trained faculty for the Primary Trauma Care Course, UK she focuses on training medical professionals in a systematic approach to the clinical needs of a severely injured patient. • Recognizing the need for evidence-based clinical practice in surgery she has been actively involved in many research projects. She is a part of the Towards Improving Trauma Care in India Research consortium which has worked in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet in Sweden to generate quality research in trauma from India. • She collaborated with the World Health Organization Collaborating Center in Mumbai and is presently working on multicentric research projects led by the Collaboration Center in Mumbai. Over her professional career, she has closely collaborated with many prestigious institutions in various roles including the World Health Organization Academy (WHO Academy), the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (India), the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Lancet Commission for Global Surgery and Doctors For You (DFY). • Being an executive member of the Innovations in Global Surgery research group, she works for the advocacy of improving surgical care by strengthening the innovation ecosystem in low and middle-income countries. • Since June 2020 she has been invited as a reviewer for the International peer-reviewed journal -Injury. In 2022, she was also invited by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh as the faculty at the International conference in Chennai.
