Dr. Dipti Sarma is a highly accomplished Endocrinologist, practising at Manipal Hospital Malleshwaram, Bangalore. With a dream to become a medical practitioner from very childhood, Dr. Dipti commenced her medical journey at Gauhati Medical College Hospital, earning her M.B.B.S. in 1977. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in General Medicine from Assam Medical College in 1992. Her passion for endocrinology drove her to undergo a two-year Post Doctorate Fellowship in Endocrinology at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (A.I.I.M.S.), New Delhi, from 1995 to 1997. Her training at A.I.I.M.S. encompassed diverse aspects of Endocrinology, including emergency cases like Type 1 Diabetes with ketoacidosis, adrenal insufficiency, hypothyroidism in coma, thyroid storm, and pituitary apoplexy. Her expertise extended to short stature, Cushing's disease, Cushing's syndrome, and the preoperative and postoperative management of pituitary adenoma. Throughout her training, Dr. Dipti actively participated in clinical case presentations, seminars, and weekly inter-departmental discussions on Endo Radiology and Endo pathology cases. Moreover, her research project on Thalassemia Intermedia and Endocrine Hormone Deficit showcased her dedication to advancing medical knowledge. Dr. Dipti further honed her skills through international exposure. She completed a three-month Visiting Clinical Observership in Diabetes & Endocrinology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, U.S.A., in 2019. Subsequently, she was awarded the WHO Fellowship for Diabetes & Endocrinology, where she mastered the measurement of leptin levels in the hypothalamic nucleus of mice and the experimental technique of Iontophoresis for transdermal drug delivery in diabetes painful peripheral neuropathy. She also explored the use of WBC CT-scan in Diabetes Foot ulcers. Dr. Dipti Sarma is the best endocrinologist doctor in Bangalore. Dr. Dipti Sarma’s illustrious career at Gauhati Medical College Hospital spans over three decades. She held key positions there, including Professor and Head of the Department of Endocrinology & Metabolism, from 2011 to 2020. As a mentor for Post-Doctorate courses in Endocrinology (D.M.) from 2008 to 2020, she played a pivotal role in shaping aspiring endocrinologists. Before her professorship, the doctor served as an Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and Registrar, each role adding to her expertise and leadership capabilities. In 2021, Dr. Sarma embraced a new opportunity as Professor and Head of the Department of Endocrinology & Metabolism at the Sapthagiri Institute of Medical Science & Research Centre in Bangalore. As the Founder and President of the Assam Endocrine Society, Dr. Dipti organises annual conferences with eminent endocrinologists, promoting knowledge exchange and scientific research in diabetes and endocrinology. Her W2W Programme (Women to Women Programme) trains women physicians in diabetes awareness among school children, working women, and pregnant women, fostering community health. Dr. Dipti Sarma leads workshops on diabetes foot ulcers and continuous glucose monitoring, contributing to enhanced patient care. As an assessor appointed by the Government of India, Dr. Sarma conducts Post-Doctorate standard examinations in D.M. Endocrinology at various medical colleges. Her contributions as a postgraduate examiner for the National Board Examiner (N.B.E.) further enrich medical education. As the Head Examiner in Endocrinology at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (2011 - 2020), Dr. Dipti oversaw the D.M. Endocrinology examinations and organised research methodology workshops for postgraduate students. She is an active member of various associations, including the American Endocrine Society, the Endocrine Society of India, the Association of Physicians of India, and the Indian Thyroid Society. Her accomplishments are not limited to her home country, as she has presented her research internationally, such as her poster presentations at ENDO 2013 in San Francisco, U.S.A., and the World Diabetes and Metabolic Update in Sydney, Australia.
