Dr. U. Vasudeva Rao is a well-known vascular surgery consultant who is associated with Manipal Hospitals, Jayanagar, Bangalore. He has a vast experience of around 48 years in the medical field, including 43 years as a specialist. His field of expertise includes performing endosurgery, organ transplants, breast surgery, carotid angioplasty, and thyroid surgery. Across more than four decades of his career, he has become an expert general physician, diabetologist, and surgeon in the city. He completed his MBBS from the University of Mysore in 1975. He did his MS in General Surgery in 1978 from the Kasturba Medical College. In addition, he did FRCS in 1982 from the University of Glasgow, located in the United Kingdom. He also holds other prestigious degrees like FICS and FAIS. For the same reason, he has become a famous vascular surgeon in Bangalore. During his long and successful career, Dr. Rao has worked on performing general surgical operations like thyroid breast GI surgery. He also performs laparoscopic procedures for treating gallbladder disorders, appendix disorders, and hernias. Apart from that, the doctor has performed arterial bypasses, haemodialysis access, lasers for varicose veins, etc. He has treated trauma, AV malfunctions, piles, fistula, and other diseases by performing procedures like stapler haemorrhoidectomy and laser closure of the anal fistula. Dr. Rao is skilled in treatments like femorofemoral bypass, vascular lesion surgery, femoral-popliteal bypass, aortofemoral bypass surgery, and thoracic aortic aneurysm treatment. He is a member of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons (IAGES). He was a committee member of the Hernia Society of India and the treasurer of the Vascular Society of India. Dr. Rao was also an examiner for IMRCS London and an inspector and appraiser for the National Board of Examinations in India. He has worked as a dean of the postgraduate program of Kathmandu University and as an adjunct professor at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. He was the treasurer and committee member of the Association of Surgeons in India and the chairman of the ASI Karnataka Chapter. He was a founder member of the Venous Association of India. At the ASI Karnataka chapter, Dr. Rao delivered the reputed Dr. H. S. Bhat and Prof. M. P. Pai's oration. He also delivered the prestigious Authikeshavalu Oration at the Surgical Society of Bangalore. Articles written by him have been published in many journals. He has been invited as a faculty at scientific meetings held in countries like Malaysia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the USA. He has organised workshops and conferences locally and nationally. The Handbook on Patients Safety and the Handbook on Vascular Surgery include chapters written by Dr. Rao.
