About Me

Dr. (Col) VK Gupta has got the special distinction of having his name in Guinness Book of World Records for being a part of a hospital on wheels for the longest duration.He is a Professor and Senior Consultant (Medicine and Gastroenterology) at Command Hospital and Armed Forces Medical College complex at Pune. Here he was involved with the teaching of Post Doctoral, Post Graduate and Under Graduate students, besides being the head of the Gastroenterology services at the Command Hospital.Prior to this, he was appointed as Head of the Gastroenterology services and Senior Consultant Gastroenterology at various tertiary care level Command Hospitals of Armed Forces – Army Hospital, Research & Referral, Delhi, Base Hospital, Delhi, Lucknow, Chandigarh, and Udhampur. The primary role of these places was to provide state of the art Gastroenterology care to all the cases referred from a large number of hospitals dependent on these Command Hospitals. He was involved in training the young Physicians and Gastroenterologists regarding the correct ways of practicing Medicine and Clinical & Interventional Gastroenterology.During long journey of 15 years as a Consultant Gastroenterologist, a maximum number of the Gastroenterologists of the Armed Forces have sought training under him and have been observed by him regarding their competence and ascertaining for further promotion and grouping them into the elite specialist cadre.Jan 1988 – Dec 1993: Worked at probably the busiest service hospital of Indian Armed Forces at Jammu as a Consultant Physician. The experience gained at that hospital was unparallel. Aug 1983 – Dec 1986: Worked as a clinician in various Hospitals and Polyclinics of Indian Army and was involved in delivering primary preventive and promotive health care to personnel and families of Indian Army. International Exposure- During 1993, he was selected by Army HQ and was entrusted with the task of providing Specialist cover as a Consultant Physician to the various International Armies of UN mission at Cambodia. He had done special work related to the treatment of a large number of Malaria and Tuberculosis cases. The work done was appreciated by WHO at a conference held at Pnom Penh in Sep 1993.
