About Me

Dr.Satya Kiran Avvaru is a Senior ENT Consultant and Cochlear Implant Surgeon at Rainbow Children's Hospital, Hyderabad. He pursued his basic medical schooling from Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal and post-graduation in Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad. Did his DNB (Diplomat in National Board, National Board of Examinations, New Delhi) in the discipline of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) from Vasavi ENT Institute, Hyderabad.He is the first in India to have a certified Fellowship training for 2 years in Implant Otology from prestigious institution, Christian Medical College, Vellore. Later he received Advanced Cochlear Implant Surgeon Training from Institute for Cochlear Implant Training (ICIT), United States of America (USA) under the leadership of Prof. Thomas J Balkany, the pioneer of Cochlear Implantation. Had short term clinical observer ship and training in the department of Otology, Neurotology & Cochlear Implants at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, United States of America (USA). He is the recipient of Cochlear Implant Group of India (CIGI) Fellowship for the academic year 2016-17, Indian Society of Otology (ISO) Fellowship for the academic year 2015-16. He also has 14 meritorious awards including 6 gold medals in the field of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) through his career with various presentations and publications at Regional, National & International level. Has been the organise, operating surgical faculty (in-house & guest) in various Regional & National Live Surgical Workshops. He is the author of Handbook on Dissection Manual for Basic & Advanced Cochlear Implantation. He has professional affiliations as a life member and/or governing body member with Cochlear Implant Group of India (CIGI), Indian Society of Otology (ISO), Indian Academy of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery (IAOHNS), Association of Otolaryngologists of India (AOI).Areas of Interest Pediatric Cochlear Implantation (advanced), Auditory Brainstem Implantation (ABI), Bone Anchored Hearing Aids/Devices (BAHA/BAHD), Otology & Neurotology, Pediatric Otolaryngology. Currently leads the Rainbow Cochlear Implantation team in association with implant audiologists, rehabilitation specialists and speech & language pathologists / therapists.
