• Dr. Smartya Pulai is a highly skilled consultant in the Department of Nephrology and Transplantation at Manipal Hospitals, Kolkata. After more than a decade working in the medical industry, he has solidified his reputation as a top authority in his area of expertise. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from West Bengal State University. Subsequently, he completed his Doctor of Medicine (MD) in General Medicine at the same university in Kolkata. • He obtained a DM (Doctor of Medicine) degree in Nephrology from the Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education & Research (IPGMER, SSKM Hospital). He also underwent further education in ESENeph and obtained MRCP Part I & II from the Royal College of Physicians, UK. In addition to his clinical work, he also mentors and educates future doctors, utilising his extensive expertise to shape the next generation of healthcare professionals. In the past, Dr. Pulai has overseen more than 200 successful renal transplants and has treated over 40,000 patients, demonstrating his exceptional commitment to providing quality care. • Dr. Pulai's notable career accomplishments include being the champion of the 5th Nephrology TYSA Zonal Round in 2020 and delivering talks at prestigious events such as the 2019 Indian Society of Nephrology (ISN) 50th Annual Conference and the East Zonal Nephrology Conference. Dr. Pulai's dedication to both research and education is exemplified through his participation in the 2nd Interventional Nephrology Course at Singapore General Hospital. He also participated as a faculty member in the International Society of Organ Transplantation (ISOT) National Conference in 2023 and the Indian Society of Nephrology East Zone Conference (ISNEZCON) in 2024. Additionally, he holds the position of state representative in the ISN East Zone and currently serves as an organising secretary at HOPECON for 2 years, highlighting his leadership capabilities. • He is the author of important studies that have been published in BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care, such as studies on the prevalence of non-diabetic kidney disease and the limitations of clinical predictors. In addition, Dr. Pulai's recent work involved examining the lasting effects of sudden kidney injury, highlighting his active involvement in comprehending and treating kidney disorders.
